文化研究（CulturalStudies）是20世纪西方文化与文学研究领域的一次极为重要的学术思潮。文化研究以其强大的吸纳能力借鉴了现代西方哲学、政治学、社会学、语言学、新闻传播学等众多学术领域的研究成果，对现代性这一当代学术最为核心的问题发起了此起彼伏的批判。文化研究为何肇始于20世纪初的英国文化？英国中产阶级与文化研究的兴起有着怎样的本质联系？文化研究又是如何解释了现代性批判这一主题的广度与深度？本次讲座将深入探讨以上问题。

主讲人介绍：

RonaldSchleiferis George Lynn Cross Research Professor of English and AdjunctProfessor in Medicine at the University of Oklahoma. He is the editorof ContemporaryLiterary Criticism,that went into four editions and includes sections on culturalstudies, structuralism, and other approaches to literary studies. Hehas written eleven books, the most recent of which are IntangibleMaterialism: The Body, Scientific Knowledge, and the Power ofLanguage (2009),Modernismand Popular Music(2011), and (co-authored with Dr. Jerry Vannatta) TheChief Concern of Medicine: The Integration of the Medical Humanitiesand Narrative Knowledge into Medical Practices(forthcoming 2013). He is currently serving as interim editor ofConfigurations,A Journal of science and technology in relation to literature and thearts.
